As you may have noticed that our name is spelled “Charlestown” as one word and not as it is presently spelled “Charles Town”. This is because our stories and events happened in the past when the town spelled its name as one word. The town’s name was changed in approximately 1912 because of its confusion with the state capital Charleston, WV.
